‘Bikes, Books & Butterflies’ What’s been happening, since we last spoke?

Wow, it’s been a while and such crazy times! We’re delighted to be back relaunching our HP Blog and communicating with you, our loyal and generous Hankypankiers!

We’re very excited, to bring you up to date with all the goings on and where we’re going next…(obviously, wherever it happens to be, we’ll be taking you with us!)

From then to now…

Well since our last blog we’ve navigated through the challenges of covid and lockdowns (like everyone else).

It did give us the opportunity to revamp Hanky Panky and think about the future.

Delivery became a big part of our lockdown experience.  Thank you everyone who joined us on this particular voyage of discovery!

With so many balls to juggle, hopping on and off the motorbike every 10 minutes became a struggle. We are therefore teaming up with Deliveroo, who now take care of the fetching and carrying, whilst we throw ourselves into the kitchen!

Recipe Book

Some super exciting news for Hanky Panky, is that we will be featuring in a new book being published later this year!

‘Breakfast Club’ is a beautiful hardback which celebrates the best of Britain’s breakfast and brunch scene.

Featuring cafés, restaurants, coffee shops and brunch spots across the UK, this amazing new cookbook contains recipes and stories from a wide range of businesses that do breakfast like nobody else (we’ll take that!)

It will be available online and in bookshops from September!

The Railway Children

As many of you will know, Hanky Panky’s have been involved, from the start, with a variety of charities.

Collection boxes and charity evenings have featured regularly at HP (often with a ukulele twist), but we have been looking for something a little different.

Mrs HP’s experience of being a paediatrician has made her, and, by extension, the HP family, acutely aware of the importance of the early years of life, so we were looking for a charity which could support children and families.  We also wanted a local charity which had a global perspective and presence.

So, as you can imagine, we were delighted to be introduced to, and given the opportunity to support, ‘The Railway Children’ through a charity partnership.

‘The Railway Children’ is an international charity that has changed the lives of thousands of children over the last 25 years.

Started by David Maidment MBE (a former railway professional), it seeks to ease the plight of children living and working around the railways in India.

The charity has now grown to include projects in East Africa and supporting vulnerable children here in the UK.

Our plan is simple, we are committing to give a small percentage of our monthly takings to the charity. We will keep you updated on how our joint effort is going, and the difference made possible by all of you. It may be a modest amount, but we hope this partnership will give Railway Children a regular income which we know will be put to good use.

This means that with every mouthful or slurp you will be joining us in our desire to make this wonderful world a little better and a few lives a little easier!

The Butterfly Appeal

In addition to our support of ‘The Railway Children’ charity, over the last month HP have supported Claire House Children’s Hospice Butterfly appeal, fundraising for their Butterfly suite which provides end of life care for children and families.

Through the support of our wonderful HP customers, we have raised a sum of; £260.00! Thank you to everyone who contributed-it means a lot!

Have a look at the amazing work Claire House do!

Proper Independence

As you all know by now, ‘Hanky Panky’ is one of a kind i.e., we’re not part of a chain.

And although that has, and has had, its obvious difficulties (pandemic etc.) we love it like that and wouldn’t want it any other way.  So much so, in fact, that we’re always striving for ultimate independence, not just in terms of not being part of a chain, but also in what we buy and use and how we use it!

This means that as well as sourcing ingredients from other independent businesses (more on that in future blogs!) we’re attempting, bit by bit, to produce our own ingredients and food items (again more on that in future blogs!!).

We’ve enjoyed nearly eight years of splendid isolation (or independent trading as it’s

better known!). It’s not as lonely as it sounds…….it has given us the freedom to choose our own path and indulge in plenty of creativity.

Many of the dishes we serve have been invented by team members who’ve come into work with an idea.

From the fudge to the cheesecake, caramelised pecans to cookie dough, most of the toppings are made here at HP.

We look forward to sharing some of these recipes and introducing you to those who create them, in future blogs.

Testify is back!!!

It was wonderful to welcome Testify back to HP recently after a bit of a break.

The format is slightly different, but still presents a wonderful opportunity to share your poetry in an open mic manner.

Just a reminder that ‘Testify’ will be on at HP, the second Tuesday of the month.

Au Revoir

We’ll say goodbye for now, but rest assured we will be back, sooner rather than later, with all our summer events, happenings and Hanky Panky news!
